CASS staff awarded for outreach in SCAPA awards

On 4 December the Strategic Communications and Public Affairs office hosted its annual awards and thank you party, celebrating the contributions made by academic and professional staff to media and public engagement.
It was, as always, a tough field, as so many ANU staff are generous with their time and effort for media, public lectures, events and other outreach activities.
CASS staff took out awards in two categories this year:
Emerging Talent Award
Dr Emmeline Taylor, Criminology
The steady creep of closed circuit television into our lives is raising big questions about our privacy. Dr Taylor specialises in crime, community safety and criminal justice research and is often asked to comment on the impact of CCTV on our lives.
Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Advancing the Reputation of the University
Professor Amin Saikal, Centre for Arab and Islamic Studies
A leading voice on Middle Eastern politics and an active contributor to public debate in the media, and through public lectures, Professor Saikal also is one of the University’s most prolific op-ed writers.
